Find Cloud County Jail Releases

To find someone released from Cloud County Law Enforcement Center, first determine whether the person returned to the community or moved into another agency’s custody. A county jail departure can follow bond, dismissal, time served, or another court order. It can also be a transfer to a state prison, another jail, federal custody, or immigration detention. Cloud County Jail release confirmation therefore needs both the local custody event and the record that explains what followed. A current roster cannot supply that history after the person leaves, and a missing name does not reveal the release reason or destination.

Cloud County Jail Release Paths

The Cloud County Sheriff operates the Law Enforcement Center and keeps the booking event that ends local custody. The record should distinguish a community release from a transfer. Bond, recognizance, dismissal, time served, sentence completion, probation, or another court order can permit a return to the community. A transfer to the Kansas Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE leaves the person in custody.

The jail event is the first handoff record. It can show the actual date and time, coded reason, and receiving custodian if those fields are maintained. The Cloud County district court supplies the legal reason through a bond order, dismissal, sentencing journal entry, probation order, remand, or other docket event. Pairing those records is stronger than relying on a roster disappearance or a notification alone.

Confirm Cloud County Jail Release

The official Cloud County site does not publish a searchable current roster, recent-release feed, or historical release archive. Kansas VINE supplies the near-real-time county-jail notification layer, while the Sheriff remains the source for the underlying event. A clear confirmation sequence follows the person across those boundaries.

  1. Gather the full name, lawful birth information, aliases, approximate booking date, and case number. A booking number is especially useful.
  2. Search Kansas through VINELink. Confirm the result names the correct facility and person, then preserve the status and update time.
  3. Call the Cloud County Jail at 785-243-8164. Ask whether local custody ended through a community release or a transfer.
  4. Search the Cloud County district-court case. Read the signed order or docket entry that authorized or explained the jail exit.
  5. Follow the named destination. Use KASPER for KDOC, the receiving jail for an intercounty transfer, BOP for a federal sentence, or ICE for immigration custody.
  6. Request the booking and release event when exact time, code, destination, or an older record is required.
Do not equate absence with release. A person can leave Cloud County Jail and remain in another custodian’s control.

A VINE release or transfer alert is a useful lead, not a certified jail record. A court order proves legal authority but not the precise moment staff completed the release. The Cloud County released inmate search and records overview explains how to reconcile all custody systems.

Cloud County Jail Records Contact

The 2024 PREA audit identifies the facility at 2090 Fort Kearney Road. The official county page gives the jail line. Call first before visiting for records because the county courthouse has a separate address, and the published Sheriff business hours do not establish the records custodian’s counter schedule.

Dispatch: 785-243-3131
Call to verify the custodian, location, and records hours.

The Sheriff page says the facility is staffed 24 hours a day, every day. The visitation page says appointment calls can be made around the clock and lists regular Sheriff business hours as Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those statements do not prove release processing occurs around the clock or that a records counter follows the same schedule.

The county page confirms the jail and Sheriff functions at the complex, but it does not provide a release archive.

Request Cloud County Jail Records

A narrow Kansas Open Records Act request should seek the existing event, not ask staff to conduct research or give a legal conclusion. Identify the booking and request an electronic copy of the booking and release record, including the actual exit date and time, release code, destination or receiving custodian, and any existing code legend. Ask separately for bond fields, associated charges, the booking sheet, and the booking photograph.

Cloud County provides a public-records page and an official request form. The form seeks requester details, signature, a specific description, dates, and the office thought to hold the record. It states that costs are estimated from actual work and requires prepayment when an estimate exceeds $50. Request an itemized estimate and set a ceiling before costs are incurred.

Under K.S.A. 45-218, the agency must act on the request as soon as possible and by the end of the third business day. That deadline does not always mean production is finished. When access is delayed, the custodian should give the detailed reason and earliest expected availability. A written denial should state the legal authority. If exempt matter is mixed with public release fields, ask for the open part to be separated.

Booking photos are treated differently from ordinary text records. Kansas law generally does not require an agency to furnish copies of pictures in the same way, and discretionary closure may apply. Request the photo separately and ask whether inspection or discretionary electronic release is available. A denied photo does not invalidate the rest of the release record.

Cloud County Jail Capacity

The official sources contain different capacity descriptions. The short county Law Enforcement Center page says the jail has 80 beds. A KDOC-hosted PREA audit submitted in January 2024 reports a designed capacity of 85 after renovation. It also records a current population snapshot of 44 and a 12-month average daily population of 48 in one place and 49 in a later table. These figures describe facility capacity and population at the audit, not annual bookings or releases.

Older county text describes a smaller historic jail, but it predates the latest renovation. The recent audit is the most detailed current evidence. None of these numbers can be converted into a release rate, average stay, or daily release estimate.

Cloud County Jail Transfer History

The jail closed for more than eight months for major renovation and reopened in July 2023. The PREA audit reports agreements involving Sedgwick, Washington, Republic, Clay, Jewell, and Mitchell counties during the closure. This history changes how an older custody search should be read. A Cloud County detainee may have appeared in an outside jail’s system, and later movement back to Cloud County or onward to another custodian was a transfer.

Search the Cloud County court case first, then ask the Sheriff which facility held the person during the relevant period. Request the destination and transport event rather than inferring community release from a gap in one county’s records. Intercounty custody is still custody.

Cloud County Jail Pickup Details

No official Cloud County source publishes fixed release hours, the release exit, a weekend schedule, a family waiting area, or property-return procedures. The Sheriff’s round-the-clock staffing statement does not establish round-the-clock release processing. Court orders, holds, staff processing, and transport can affect timing.

Before driving to the facility, call the jail for the specific event. Ask whether release is expected to the community, whether another hold remains, where a pickup driver should wait, what identification is needed, and how personal property will be returned. These local questions should not be answered from KDOC’s prison rules. KDOC has a separate statewide process that addresses resident funds, civilian clothing, transportation, pickup-driver identification, and parole instructions.

Does a court bond entry set the pickup time? No. It states legal authority or conditions, while the Sheriff event records when the jail completes its part. Another hold can prevent a community release after bond is entered.
